Famous British Actors

Great Britain is one of the countries that gave us and still does amazing actors as well as amazing movies. Many would say that the United States is the country with the best actors but this is certainly not true. You most probably don’t know that in many movies that actually got the Oscar, played various British actors, actors that are simply the best. Anthony Hopkins
In case you didn’t know, Anthony Hopkins is Welsh. He was born in 1937 and it is not only an actor but a director and a producer as well. He won several important awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1992, three BAFTAs, and two Emmys. In plus, Anthony Hopkins has a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. His first professional stage appearance was in the Palace Theatre, located in Swansea, and after a few years in repertory, he was spotted by Laurance Olivier. Olivier actually invited him to join the Royal National Theatre in the British capital, and later Hopkins became Olivier’s understudy. This is how his amazing career started and we all know that his movies are simply stunning.

Ian McKellen
Ian McKellen was born in 1939 and he is a 100% English actor. His career in cinematography spans genres ranging from Shakespearean to popular fantasy as well as science fiction. During his career, he won a Tony Award, four Drama Desk Awards, a Golden Globe Award, five Primetime Emmy Awards, a BIF Award, and more. He played famous roles such as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, Magneto in the X-Men series, the titular King in Richard III, and James Whale in Gods and Monsters. The BBC states that Ian McKellen’s performances have made him get a place in the canon of English stage as film actors. In 1970, McKellen became a stalwart of the National Theatre of Great Britain and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Patrick Stewart
We also want to add to our list another famous British actor, Sir Patrick Stewart. His work included several roles on stage, television, and film as well. Stewart was born in 1940 and during his career he has been nominated for Screen Actors Guild, Olivier, Golden Globe, and Emmy. The actor started with a long run with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and he got the 1979 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his amazing and unforgettable performance in Antony and Cleopatra in the West End. Another famous role he had was the one in Star Trek, Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Judi Dench
We all know Judi Dench from the James Bond series, where she played her role absolutely amazing. Judi was born in 1934 and is a famous English actor. She made her professional debut in 1957, and since then she performed in several Shakespeare’s plays. The first part of her career included performances in theatre, but later she started to play in movies as well. Judi Dench won a BAFTA Award as Most Promising Newcomer. However, her best roles were in major films such as A Room with a View, Golden Eye, and James Bond films.
